Anthem has proven to be quite the headache for BioWare and EA. The game’s failure saw the release of a biting report that revealed excessive crunch time and a lack of direction at the studio. Its continued struggles as a live-service has put its future in jeopardy, and with many of its lead developers moving on to Dragon Age 4, it seems unlikely Anthem will be supported for 10 years as previously promised....
EA revealed this in a recent investors call, but stopped short of clarifying exactly how many units Anthem has sold. It’s unclear how the underwhelming sales for Anthem will impact the game’s support moving forward. But the poor sales combined with Anthem’s dwindling player base (which is now causing matchmaking issues) paint a rather grim picture of the game’s future. However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Anthem. EA also revealed that Anthem players played the game for a collective 150 million hours, which is a rather impressive statistic when one considers that the game just released this past February....
Since Anthem’s latest patch, the game has reportedly been calculating damage based on the average power level of a player’s loadout. However, when doing this calculation the game doesn’t take into account the number of items slotted into the loadout. Following that logic, simply removing a low tier support item (since there are no masterwork or legendary versions yet) entirely means that a loadout that has less equipment will still have a higher average and do more damage....
