Signed by the Indianapolis Colts on Aug. 22 following an ankle injury to Vontae Davis, Cromartie was released Tuesday. The Colts also announced the release of linebacker Sio Moore.

Cromartie, a four-time Pro Bowler, initially signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Colts. He had 14 tackles and two passes defensed in four games including four tackles against the Jaguars on Sunday in London, where he took a knee in protest during the “Star-Spangled Banner” for the second straight game.
That 30-27 loss to the Jaguars marked Davis’ second game back from injury, and the Colts apparently saw enough to let Cromartie go.
The 11-year veteran did not appear to show any animosity, thanking Colts fans in an Instagram post for their support during his “great few weeks” with the team.
Moore was a third-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in the 2013 NFL Draft and traded to the Colts in 2015. He had 31 tackles, 23 solo, in four starts this season.
