This much was stated by Ben Scott, BioWare’s design lead for Anthem’s end game activity known as Strongholds, with the developer also promising fans that the title’s end game materials get “more important the day after launch.” Expounding upon this, Scott stated that “replayability is a core goal of the content” and the developer will be looking at and listening closely to the community in order to better service the fan base with the materials.
BioWare’s Strongholds design lead for Anthem then went on to further detail the developer’s approach to end game content within the title, saying, “The end game should be accessible to as much of the community as possible, but it shouldn’t be watered down in the name of accessibility.” Scott also claimed that the studio is designing end game materials with the ethos that “content can be difficult, exciting, rewarding, and still be accessible.” That said, the BioWare dev also said the studio will be attempting to make end game content that won’t “foster toxicity or elitism” and will try to “reward achievement, skill, and mastery.”
Taking this into consideration, it will be interesting to see how Anthem walks the fine line between offering up end game content that not only manages to reward players, but also doesn’t generate a segment of the fan base who exude elitist mentalities for obtaining such difficult-to-acquire gear. Surely it can be done with planning and dogged persistence, but this is a situation in which similar games like the original Destiny once found itself after Bungie started launching DLC for the title. At any rate, we will simply have to wait and see how BioWare will handle end game content as a whole.
Anthem is currently scheduled to release on February 22, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
